Arts-Integrated Experiential Learning

Provides annual workshops and study groups for teachers on identity, belonging, and inclusive practices. Collaborates to develop an age-appropriate, anti-bias curriculum incorporating diverse voices and adheres to a non-discrimination policy covering race, religion, gender identity, ability, and other aspects of identity.

Provides a college-preparatory Waldorf education for 274 students from Nursery through Grade 12, emphasizing imaginative play, artistic exploration, critical thinking, and developmentally appropriate practices. The curriculum integrates storytelling, movement, hands-on learning, and the arts across subjects, with small class sizes and individualized academic support.

Integrates artistic and practical activities into core academics, including hand-designed books, woodwork, eurythmy, and digital arts. High school students engage in video production, app development, multimedia creation, and social impact campaigns, with instruction in research, data analysis, and collaborative platforms.

Oversees pedagogical governance and maintains the integrity of the Waldorf curriculum. Collaborates with school leadership on program development and long-range planning, and implements term limits for Board of Trustees members to ensure governance rotation.

Provides Parent-Child classes for children aged 6 weeks to 4 years, including a Newborn Parent–Infant Class and programs with free play, bread baking, songs, and finger games. Classes are held in a dedicated classroom and in Central Park, with additional community-building events and lectures.

Runs a three-year early childhood program including Nursery (ages 3–4) and two-year Kindergarten (ages 4–6), featuring imaginative play, storytelling, music, movement, nature exploration, and practical arts. Uses mixed-age classrooms and oral storytelling to support language, numeracy, and social development.

Prepares daily meals in-house using traditional cooking methods and ingredients grown in the school garden. Integrates nutrition education across grades, explores global food traditions, and implements composting and low-waste practices.

Organizes annual Class Trips with service components, outdoor exploration, and seasonal activities to deepen environmental awareness and build class community. Students engage in nature documentation, excursions to Central Park, and field studies such as frog observation.

Offers a Guest Student Program for non-enrolled students in Grades 7–12 to experience the school’s educational environment. Operates a college preparatory program for approximately 85 high school students, with 95% college acceptance and 100% of graduates accepted to college, including selective institutions.

Offers a one- to three-month international exchange program for Grade 10 students at no additional cost, matching them with host families in countries where their world language is spoken. Includes reciprocal hosting in New York City and opportunities in countries including Germany, France, and Spain to deepen language and cross-cultural skills.

Produces student-led publications including The Key (literary magazine), Fifteen East (newspaper), and Spectrum (yearbook), with The Key published annually for over 50 years. Supports performances through annual Senior Play, class plays, chorus, and musical ensembles.

Collaborates with the Rochester City School District to provide special education teachers for students requiring resource room or consultant teacher services.

Conducts two project-based Learning Expeditions per school year for all grade levels, each lasting approximately thirteen weeks and focusing on science and social studies, incorporating fieldwork, guest experts, and concluding with Exhibition Nights where students present final products to families.

Offers a physical education program that includes dance, creative movement, and collaborative games, integrating academic content from Learning Expeditions into student-choreographed performances.

Implements the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, a problem-based program that teaches mathematical concepts through real-world contexts, and integrates math instruction into Expeditions by having students analyze data and build scale models.

Provides speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling services to students with special needs through external professionals, and operates a special education coordination program that includes academic intervention support, CSE referral assistance, and small-group literacy instruction using the Wilson Language/Literacy Program.

Enrolls 6th grade students at both the RMSC and Flour City campuses, serving approximately 224 students per campus.

Hosts regular Board of Trustees meetings that are open to both in-person and virtual attendance, ensuring community access and transparency.
