Student-Centered Creative Engagement

Commissions and presents world premieres of new compositions by contemporary artists, including works by Bruce Wolosoff and Carter Burwell. Recent premieres include cello sonatas Requiem for the Planet and Paradise Found, as well as pieces such as "Penumbra," "Blue Mantra," and "The Loom," often tied to thematic or environmental narratives.

Curates and performs in the Reflections in Music concert series, which reimagines classical music engagement through thematic programming, original compositions, and artist-led performances. The series includes both live and livestreamed events, such as the free concert "The World is Still Beautiful."

Conceived and led an eight-year creative orchestra program at Hayground School that taught students to compose, perform, and conduct music, fostering hands-on musical education and creative development.

Presents solo, chamber, and orchestral music integrated with text, images, film, dance, and poetry to explore connections between music and other art forms, with performances held in New York City and Sag Harbor, NY. Programs include thematic concert series such as "Time Remembered" and "Reflections on Debussy," often featuring live audience engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Produces and releases original music recordings and interdisciplinary art projects, including solo piano works and albums such as Memento (2023), Paradise Found (2022), and Rising Sun Variations. Also produces collaborative works integrating music with visual art, such as the release of "More Music Inspired by Visual Art" featuring music by Bruce Wolosoff and paintings by Eric Fischl.

Organizes four annual performances for every student at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, providing performance opportunities as part of the educational experience.

Operates a play-based early childhood music program for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (ages 6 months to 36 months) that introduces foundational musical concepts through singing, movement, instrument exploration, storytelling, and seasonal musical themes. Classes begin with 15 minutes of free play to encourage exploration and include caregiver participation.

Provides required, no-cost group instruction in music theory, ear training, choir, and Dalcroze eurhythmics to all students enrolled in private lessons. Students receive 2 hours weekly if taking 30-minute private lessons and 3 hours if taking 60-minute lessons, with classes held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and integrated into the academic calendar.

Offers group-based instrumental instruction including group guitar classes, guitar technique courses, Rock Band, and Advanced Guitar Ensemble, providing collaborative music-making opportunities beyond private lessons.

Offers merit-based scholarships with additional lesson time to students aged 7 and older who have been enrolled for at least three years and demonstrate sustained commitment, as recommended by instructors.

Operates a dedicated music education facility in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx (3348 Perry Ave), offering students and families access to spaces for lessons, practice, rehearsal, and musical engagement.

Offers private instrumental and vocal lessons in piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass, and voice to students aged five and older, with sessions of 30 or 60 minutes offered across three annual terms (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Lessons are taught by professional musicians, many of whom are active performers with advanced degrees from leading conservatories.

Offers music and visual art classes for young children and their families through 15-week trimester or 30-week academic year programs. Provides both adult/child and child-only class formats led by trained educators and musicians, with improvisational accompaniment, serving developmental stages from infancy onward.

Authored and published the Diller-Quaile Series, including instructional materials like the First Solo Book and First Duet Book, and The Splendor of Music, which synthesizes over fifty years of teaching experience. Conducts research on musical development, teaching and learning, and community music practices.

Operates multiple ensembles including the Reading Orchestra, Intermediate Orchestra, Diller-Quaile Orchestra, Youth Opera, Chamber Ensemble, and Camerata—a chamber orchestra for intermediate and advanced adult musicians. These programs serve students ages 9 and up, with specific ensembles targeted at ages 11–18 and adult participants.

Delivers customized in-school music instruction in New York City public, charter, and independent schools, including weekly group instrument lessons, chorus, ensembles, and musicianship courses. Programs include partnerships with Hunter College Elementary School and Yorkville East Middle School MS177, culminating in concerts and integrated into elective curricula.

Provides individual and group music lessons, ensemble participation, and performance opportunities for students from infancy through adulthood, including instruction in voice, piano, harp, guitar, strings, woodwinds, and recorder. Offers weekly lessons of 30, 45, or 60 minutes and developmental programs tailored to early childhood, youth, and adult learners.

Provides the Music for All Library—an online resource for early childhood professionals—and distributes individual memberships to teachers and directors from partner centers. Supports curriculum delivery through digital materials used in conjunction with weekly online teacher training.
