Trauma-Informed Whole-Child Support

Awards grants of $4,000 to 3rd grade math teachers for implementing movement-based learning resources and provides grant application support, direct funding, and scholarship assistance to schools and educators. Also offers classroom grants that include virtual professional development and kinesthetic learning materials.

Conducts assessments and collects data to evaluate the impact of movement-based math programming on student fluency, attitudes toward math, and self-efficacy, including administering 25-question math and 13-question self-efficacy assessments. Also conducts ongoing research such as daily data collection during the Summer Institute and plans for DEI improvements to program surveys.

Organizes Family Fun Nights and Math-a-thon fundraisers that engage hundreds of individuals in kinesthetic math activities, promoting math confidence in a supportive and enjoyable environment while supporting schools in acquiring educational materials.

Provides educators and schools with grant writing seminars, templates, and research services to help secure funding for movement-based learning initiatives, including a "Grant Writing 101" seminar and practice opportunities.

Serves as a national resource and training center for kinesthetic learning, providing monetary support, professional development, research, and program implementation assistance to schools and learning institutions.

Offers virtual webinars, online courses, and in-person training sessions for teachers, administrators, and educators on research-based, movement-integrated math teaching techniques, including strategies for students affected by adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and methods to assess student progress. Includes two-hour online sessions, a 6-part course, and training during the annual Summer Institute.

Authored and published the book "Activate Math: Using Movement to Spark Engagement and Ignite Learning," providing K-8 educators with practical, movement-based math activities and strategies.

Provides physical and digital educational materials such as floor mats for counting, place value, and shape identification, along with curriculum packages and resource kits to support implementation of Math & Movement programming in schools and at home.

Provides a multidisciplinary support model including teachers, social workers, behavioral specialists, counselors, and an on-site pediatric nurse practitioner to promote student academic and emotional success. Implements a School Culture and Social Curriculum focused on conflict resolution, critical thinking, and logical consequences, alongside individualized academic support through small class sizes (13:1 student-teacher ratio) and differentiated instruction.

Supports families through a structured Family Support Plan that includes regular home-school communication, invitations to school events, and connections to external support services, ensuring holistic engagement with scholars and their caregivers.

Operates a tuition-free public charter school in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx, serving students in grades PreK through 8, with a specific mission to support children impacted by the foster care and child welfare systems. The school uses a lottery-based admissions system without application fees and provides a rigorous, college-preparatory academic program integrated with trauma-informed instruction.

Makes school performance information accessible to the public and responds to inquiries about academic outcomes and institutional effectiveness.

Operates a special education program that delivers speech-language pathology, psychological services, physical and occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, orientation and mobility services, diagnostic medical services, and counseling for students with identified needs, particularly those involved in the child welfare system.

Operates Little Haven, a full-day pre-K program that runs five days a week and emphasizes self-regulation and social-emotional development for young scholars.

Provides professional development for staff on the operations of the child welfare system, its impact on children and families, and the developmental consequences of trauma. Trains educators to interpret student behaviors through a trauma-informed lens to improve emotional and academic support.

Operates the Community Impact Institute (CII), established in 2009, to advance capacity building, deliver technical assistance, improve service delivery, and conduct community needs assessments through cross-sector collaboration.

Delivers occupational health services that combine clinical treatment with employment supports, operating programs in New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Texas through subsidiaries and local providers to improve health and economic well-being outcomes.
