How they approach the work
Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.
- Holistic Support Model with Co-Located Servicesmethodology: holistic_support_modelBy integrating family support services, social workers, and community-based resources directly into the school environment, the school reduces absenteeism and systemic barriers, because co-location and wraparound services address non-academic drivers of educational inequity—particularly for children in the child welfare system—by making support accessible and consistent.
- Strengths-Based, Voice-Centered Approach for At-Risk Studentsmethodology: strengths_based_educationBy emphasizing student voice, choice, and strengths—rather than deficits—the school fosters agency and engagement among child welfare-involved students, because a strengths-based and participatory model rebuilds self-worth and motivation eroded by trauma and systemic marginalization.
- Targeted Access Through Community-Rooted Prioritizationmethodology: targeted_lottery_and_community_staffingBy providing lottery preference to at-risk students in the child welfare system while employing local Bronx residents as staff, the school increases trust and access for the population it aims to serve, because community-rooted staffing and intentional enrollment policies reduce systemic exclusion and build culturally responsive, accessible institutions.
- Trauma-Informed, Child Welfare-Integrated Education Modelmethodology: trauma_informed_educationBy designing school spaces, curriculum, and support systems that are trauma-informed and integrated with child welfare services, the school improves academic engagement and dismantles systemic barriers for students impacted by abuse, neglect, or foster care, because these students learn best in predictable, empathetic environments that address their social-emotional needs as a prerequisite to academic success.
