Interdisciplinary Integration

Conducts research studies and projects such as the Reimagining CS Pathways initiative to define foundational content and learning progressions, including comparative analyses of standards, literature reviews, curriculum alignment, and development of AI learning priorities, to guide the evolution of K–12 computer science education.

Creates, updates, and publishes the CSTA PK–12 Computer Science Standards to define student learning outcomes and guide instruction from pre-kindergarten through grade 12, with recent revisions including integration of AI concepts and alignment with the K–12 Computer Science Framework. The standards are developed through teacher-led processes and include progressions across grade bands and connections to other subject areas.

Embeds artificial intelligence learning outcomes into the CSTA PK–12 Computer Science Standards, including tagging AI-related standards, defining AI as a high school specialty area, and supporting student understanding of AI mechanisms, ethical implications, and societal impacts.

Provides signed digital certificates to educators upon completion of professional development programs, with specific hour requirements ranging from 4 to 8 hours, as part of credentialing and recognition for ongoing learning in computer science education.

Hosts and convenes conferences and seminars that bring together educators, community leaders, and scholars to discuss current and emerging issues in computing, technology, and research, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of computer science education.

Supports computer science teachers with practical learning resources and updates through a regularly distributed newsletter.

Provides vetted classroom resources, illustrative examples (both unplugged and computer-based), and guidance on vertical alignment across grade levels to support effective implementation of the CSTA Computer Science Standards. Also identifies interdisciplinary connections to science, mathematics, and English language arts.

Engages students in analyzing real-world computing issues such as biased algorithms, surveillance, environmental impacts, and data privacy; teaches critical evaluation of digital tools, hands-on investigation of AI bias, and integration of ethical values into software design, with age-appropriate curricula from elementary through high school levels.

Offers CSTA members free access to the WeTeach_CS Certification Prep course through a partnership, supporting educators in preparing for computer science teaching certification.

Offers a range of online and in-person professional development courses for computer science teachers, including multi-week programs and shorter learning modules, often resulting in signed digital certificates. Topics include equity and inclusion, cybersecurity instruction, and strategies for creating inclusive classrooms, with access provided for specific time periods and completion requirements.

Provides chemical and biological research, development, testing, and evaluation for defense and public health communities. Develops advanced information systems and conducts research in chemical, biological, and medical sciences to protect against threats and support decision-making. Authored or co-authored over 50 technical reports and over 30 papers in this field.

Manages business transactions for CUBRC, including proposal development, negotiations, contract administration, and closeouts.

Leads financial planning and performance, personnel management, and benefits administration for CUBRC. Serves as the central point of contact for internal and external financial matters and audits.

Conducts hypersonic ground and flight testing, advanced computational modeling, and analysis. Operates advanced hypervelocity research and test facilities within its aeronautics department. Authored or co-authored over 50 publications and technical reports presented at AIAA meetings or published in AIAA journals on hypersonic research and testing systems.

Manages CUBRC's information technology and ensures the security of IT infrastructure, facilities, and personnel.

Leads research, development, testing, and integration programs across scientific and engineering domains to solve high-stakes defense challenges by integrating fundamental science, applied engineering, and systems development.

Develops technologies using machine learning, artificial intelligence, and multisource information fusion research to address defense and intelligence challenges. Applies these capabilities in domains such as electronic warfare modeling and simulation, and information exploitation.

Conducts scientific research and technical services focused on information exploitation, including data science and intelligence analysis, delivering results upon completion of grants or contracts.
