What they reported doing
- #1 primary $28KOpen Workshop: Open workshop is Manhattan Graphics founding program. It allows artists to use printmaking studio in a self-directed manner to produce artwork. Prior to fiscal year 2025, some artists were charged on an hourly basis while others were charged based on bundled hours along with class enrollment (the charges were included in tuition). A few of the artists such as volunteer keyholders and scholarship artists (now known as Fellowship Artists) received complimentary open workshop hours. Manhattan Graphics also offered 24/7 studio access to the studio at a higher membership fee. At the end of the year ended June 30, 2024, Manhattan Graphics Centers moved to a new studio which was under construction for most of fiscal year 2025. As a result of the construction, much of the in-person programming was paused and the opportunity was used by the board to configure new offerings in preparation for reopening. During FY25 16 artists used the open workshop. In fiscal year ended June 30, 2024, 417 artists used the open workshop.
- #2 $8KOutreach:Outreach consists of several programs (Exhibitions, Artist Talks, Fellowships and Visiting Printmaker Workshop) that reach audiences beyond the studio walls of Manhattan Graphics. Exhibitions -These consist of solo member shows, exchange exhibitions, juried shows, and its annual member show in two gallery spaces. As a result of the ongoing construction in the new space, during the year ended June 30, 2025, Manhattan Graphics Center held 0 exhibitions. In fiscal year 2024, Manhattan Graphics held seven in-person exhibitions with 348 artists participating. There were no online exhibits in fiscal year 2025 or 2024.Artist Talks -These involve the regular invitation of artists to Manhattan Graphics studio to discuss their current practice with the public in gatherings that allow a free exchange of ideas. This program is funded by grants. Manhattan Graphics has temporarily moved the Artist Talks online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the year ended June 30, 2025, Manhattan Graphics hosted Artist Talks featuring 4 guest speakers with 20 people participating. In fiscal year 2024, Manhattan Graphics hosted Artist Talks featuring 9 guest speakers, with 152 people participating. Fellowships-Manhattan Graphics awards fellowships every year to artists who are new to the studio, but whose financial situation precludes access. During the award term, each selected artist receives a tuition waiver for class (one long course or two short courses), unlimited open workshop time, access to storage, reimbursement for materials cost up to $125, as well as membership at Manhattan Graphics for one year. There were 14 fellowships in fiscal year 2025, as we reopened the studio. There were 9 fellowships students in fiscal year 2024. Visiting Printmaker Workshop-The Visiting Printmaker Workshop is an outreach youth education program. Manhattan Graphics teaching artists provide printmaking instruction onsite at Manhattan public high schools, together with the students' classroom art teacher. The sessions are supplemented by a field trip to a cultural institution. In fiscal year 2025 groups were invited to attend the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair for a demonstration of printmaking techniques and to view various prints from international artists. The program is entirely supported by grant funds. During fiscal year 2025, Manhattan Graphics provided six Visiting Printmaker workshops with students at The High School of Arts and Design as well as East Brooklyn Achievement First High School with 125 students participating. How they approach the work
Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.
- Community Teaching Lab Modelmethodology: community-teaching-labBy integrating professional print fabrication services with community access to expert practitioners and specialized facilities, we foster skill development and innovation in printmaking because shared expertise and resources lower barriers to artistic production and learning.
- Community-Engaged Arts Programmingmethodology: community-engaged arts educationBy offering public talks, school outreach, exhibitions, and diverse educational formats, we broaden public engagement with printmaking because accessible, multifaceted programming cultivates appreciation and inclusion across communities.
- Equity-Centered Artist Supportmethodology: equity_through_artist_fellowshipsBy providing need-based fellowships and scholarships that include studio access, education, and materials, we increase equitable participation in the arts because financial and structural support enables emerging and mid-career artists from under-resourced backgrounds to thrive.
