FRIENDS OF THE WILLIAM K SANFORD TOWN LIBRARY

Operates public library services seven days a week during the school year, including evening and weekend hours, with adjusted Sunday hours during summer months. Offers limited or shortened operating hours on holidays including Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and Election Day to support civic participation.

Maintains well-curated physical and digital collections including large print books, audiobooks on CD, Wonderbooks, and digital platforms for all ages. Offers high-demand books through a Lucky Day collection with 7-day checkout periods and no renewals or holds. Provides interlibrary loan services to retrieve materials outside the Upper Hudson Library System.

Accepts weekly donations of books and media, limited to one small grocery bag per donor, to support library collections and programs.

Provides curbside pickup service for patrons who cannot enter the library, preparing and holding checked-out materials in labeled bags at the front entrance lobby.

Operates a Book Nook at the Town of Colonie Farmers Market on Saturdays to sell books and generate proceeds for library programs and services.

Plans and hosts numerous events for all age groups, including co-hosted historical presentations such as "Saving the USS Slater" and "Second Battle of Gettysburg," and a 50th-anniversary celebration featuring special events, challenges, and a fundraising gala in April 2026.

Provides digital museum passes for reservation by Colonie resident patrons and makes physical museum passes available to all Upper Hudson Library System cardholders.

Provides volunteer opportunities for students in grades 6–12 during the school year and summer months.

Offers public access to computers for children’s homework and web-based games, provides training and access to Maker Lab equipment including Cricut machines, analog-to-digital conversion tools, and podcasting gear, and assists patrons with computer, smartphone, or software questions.

Provides assistive technology and services for patrons with disabilities, including C-Pen ReaderPens for checkout, adaptive mice and keyboards, speech recognition headphones, assistive listening devices, magnifying tools, wheelchairs, and mail-based delivery of large print books and audiobooks for those unable to visit in person.

Provides financial or logistical support to enhance library programs and services, including event sponsorships and operational improvements.

Provides a designated quiet Reading Room with tables, chairs, charging stations, and access to newspapers, magazines, and reference materials; a semi-quiet Mezzanine with larger tables and power outlets; dedicated teen seating and resources; an outdoor play space with gross motor toys and StoryWalk; and an outdoor reading garden with seating and WiFi access.
