WITHOUT THIS PROGRAM DOWNTOWN, LITTER BASKETS WOULD QUICKLY BE OVERWHELMED BY THE VOLUME OF PEDESTRIANS ON THE STREETS DURING LUNCH AND EVENING HOURS. THE WPDDMA'S CLEAN TEAM, CLAD IN HIGHLY RECOGNIZABLE AND LOGO'D HATS, AND COATS WORKS 7 DAYS A WEEK, 52 WEEKS A YEAR TO ENSURE THAT LOOSE TRASH ON THE STREET IS REMOVED. IN FISCAL YEAR 2024/2025 THE CLEAN TEAM HELPED TO REMOVE OVER 2,000 TRASH BAGS PER MONTH FROM THE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT'S SIDEWALKS AND ITS 99 TRASH RECEPTACLES. THE WPDDMA'S CLEAN TEAM ALSO REMOVES GUM SPOTS FOR THE BID'S SIDEWALKS. DURING FY24/25 THE WPDDMA'S CLEAN TEAM SPENT AN APPROXIMATE 100 HOURS REMOVING GUM DOWNTOWN. How they approach the work

Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.

  • Arts-Driven Curation to Enhance Cultural and Economic Vibrancy
    methodology: arts-based community engagement
By curating live music and jazz festivals that feature both emerging and established artists in public and private venues, we attract diverse audiences and elevate downtown’s cultural profile because artist-centered programming increases perceived value and draws broader community and tourist participation.
  • Event-Based Community Engagement to Strengthen Downtown Vitality
    methodology: event_based_community_engagement
By hosting recurring public events featuring live music, cultural programming, and family-friendly activities, we foster community engagement and activate underutilized spaces because regular, diverse programming draws consistent foot traffic and builds a sense of place.
  • Temporary Pedestrianization for Public Space Activation
    methodology: temporary_pedestrianization
By temporarily closing streets to vehicles and reprogramming them as public spaces for dining, music, and social activities, we increase community engagement and support local businesses because accessible, car-free environments encourage longer stays and broader participation.
