- #2 $106KMOTHER CABRINI ADDRESSING MENTAL HEALTH: TOTAL FUNDING: $125K; RECOGNIZED $125K IN 2024.FOR YEARS, NEW YORKERS HAVE FACED A GROWING MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE CRISIS, STRUGGLING TO FIND TIMELY, AFFORDABLE CARE - ESPECIALLY FOR THEIR CHILDREN. EVEN WHEN HELP IS AVAILABLE, THE COSTS ARE OFTEN PROHIBITIVE, WITH OUT-OF-NETWORK BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES REACHING $450-$800 PER HOUR, CREATING A TWO-TIERED SYSTEM THAT LEAVES LOW- AND MODERATE-INCOME FAMILIES BEHIND. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS INTENSIFIED MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES, PARTICULARLY FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS, WHOSE DEVELOPMENT AND WELL-BEING WERE DISRUPTED BY ISOLATION AND STRESS. DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, AND SUICIDAL THOUGHTS ARE INCREASINGLY COMMON AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, WITH LGBTQ+ YOUTH EXPERIENCING THE GREATEST DISPARITIES IN ACCESS TO CARE AND SUPPORT. ALARMING STATISTICS SHOW RISING RATES OF MENTAL ILLNESS, SUICIDE IDEATION, AND ATTEMPTS AMONG ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS, MAKING EARLY INTERVENTION AND FAMILY-INCLUSIVE SUPPORT CRITICAL. MENTAL HEALTH STRUGGLES IMPACT NOT ONLY INDIVIDUALS BUT ALSO ENTIRE HOUSEHOLDS, AFFECTING HOW EMPLOYEES SHOW UP AT WORK. TO ADDRESS THIS, NEBGH IS COMMITTED TO RAISING AWARENESS, REDUCING STIGMA, AND ENSURING EQUITABLE ACCESS TO QUALITY CARE THROUGH CAMPAIGNS, EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES, CONFERENCES, WEBINARS, AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH EMPLOYERS, HEALTH SYSTEMS, AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS - ALL AIMED AT PREVENTING SUICIDE AND IMPROVING MENTAL HEALTH OUTCOMES ACROSS ALL POPULATIONS.

How they approach the work
Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.
- Employer as Trusted Health Influencermethodology: workplace health integrationBy leveraging employers’ trusted relationships with employees, the organization improves health outcomes such as vaccination rates because workplace-based messaging reduces misinformation and increases confidence in health interventions.
- Integration of Social Determinants into Employer Health Strategymethodology: social-determinants-of-health integrationBy addressing social determinants such as food access, housing, and caregiving within employer health programs, the organization improves employee health outcomes because these factors are root causes of health disparities and barriers to care utilization.
- Just-in-Time Support to Improve Benefits Engagementmethodology: just-in-time supportBy delivering health benefits guidance at the moment of need, the organization increases employee engagement because reactive support aligns with actual behavior, overcoming the limitations of proactive education that relies on anticipated needs.
- Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration for Systemic Changemethodology: multi-stakeholder_collaborationBy convening employers, health systems, insurers, and innovators, the organization drives healthcare improvement and equity because collective, cross-sector action enables scalable solutions that individual entities cannot achieve alone.
- Upstream Integration of Advanced Primary Caremethodology: upstream care integrationBy centering advanced primary care within employer benefits, the organization improves health outcomes and reduces costs because addressing health needs earlier prevents escalation and reduces reliance on fragmented, reactive care.
