Community Land Stewardship

By removing land from the speculative market and placing it under permanent community control, we ensure long-term affordability and prevent displacement, because community ownership resists market-driven pressures and enables equitable wealth-building across generations. This strategy centers on acquiring and stewarding land through nonprofit or resident-governed entities—such as community land trusts, land banks, or interim ownership vehicles—to permanently insulate housing and community assets from speculation. Unlike one-time affordability interventions, this model embeds equity into the structure of ownership by controlling land use over time, enabling sustainable development, racial justice, and democratic governance. It unifies diverse tactics like resale restrictions, adaptive reuse, cooperative conversion, and civic engagement under a shared theory that lasting change requires taking land out of the market.
