PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION OF PS145

Accepts donations through the PS 145 PTA Fund to support student opportunities, school-wide programs, and activities.

Works closely with school administration to support and enhance educational programs and adjusts curriculum every two months based on student and teacher feedback.

Implements structured curricula including Wit & Wisdom for English language arts, Fundations and Heggerty’s Phonemic Awareness for phonics, Singapore Math for mathematics, and i-Ready for assessment and personalized instruction. Offers Dual Language programs in English and Spanish for students age 3 through Grade 5 and provides full-time Mandarin instruction using Rosetta Stone’s Dynamic Immersion method.

Organizes volunteer opportunities including class parent roles, event support, and subcommittee participation. Distributes class newsletters every other month, uses backpack mail for daily communication, and offers individual parent engagement through scheduled Zoom meetings with teachers. Provides online forms for appointment requests and guidance on using Google Classroom.

Engages students in grades K–5 in three week-long Wellness in the Schools (WITS) labs annually, including food tastings and wellness activities to promote healthy lifestyles.

Plans and conducts monthly curriculum-related field trips and supervised educational outings to local parks, libraries, and cultural sites for students in grades 3K to 5. Includes specialized programs such as the Learning Through Art program for second graders and The Nutcracker Project for third graders, which involves workshops with New York City Ballet teaching artists and attendance at a live performance at Lincoln Center.

Partners with EnjoyTechUSA to implement a STEAM program that integrates technology and hands-on learning experiences into the curriculum.

Funds and provides teaching assistants, math and reading coaches, librarian and library supplies, recess aides, garden teacher and supplies, classroom technology, and specialized instructional services including ESL, Speech therapy, and SETSS for students at PS 145M. Supports a well-rounded curriculum through dedicated staff in music, dance, visual arts, and Mandarin.

Provides school supply lists for students from 3K through Grade 5 and translates them into languages used in the Dual Language programs to ensure accessibility and preparedness.

Offers integrated speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy within students’ daily routines. Assists eligible students in grades K–5 with obtaining MetroCards through the Office of Pupil Transportation and provides supervised early arrival starting at 7:45 AM for working parents.

Provides dedicated classroom spaces and accessible facilities for early childhood students (3K, Pre-K, Kindergarten) on the first floor, specialized instructional services on the second floor for Grades 1–2, and access to creative facilities such as a TV Studio and Art Studio on the third floor for Grades 3–5.

Recognizes students and teachers with best attendance annually through a Family Day event at Yankee Stadium and invites fifth-grade students to a Mets game as a senior activity.

Implements the Sanford Harmony curriculum and daily morning meet-ups to support social-emotional learning. Operates a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program that rewards positive behavior through honeypots, school store redemptions, monthly assemblies, and excursions such as rock climbing and ice skating.

Establishes and enforces a student code of conduct and collects and maintains emergency contact information for timely communication during emergencies. Distributes and collects walking permission slips and requires signed permission slips for field trip participation.
