Exercise-as-Medicine

By prescribing structured physical activity as a therapeutic intervention, we improve motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, because exercise has neuroprotective, dopamine-enhancing, and neuroplasticity-stimulating effects that directly modify disease progression and functional decline. This strategy treats exercise not as a general wellness activity but as a targeted clinical tool to slow neurodegeneration and manage symptoms. It is distinguished from generic fitness programming by its emphasis on evidence-based, high-intensity, or multimodal movement protocols—such as boxing, table tennis, or dance—that are specifically designed to challenge balance, coordination, cognition, and emotional health in people with Parkinson’s. The shared belief across organizations is that physical activity, when delivered with medical intentionality, functions as a disease-modifying treatment.
