What they reported doing

  1. #1 primary $2.89M
Social Responsibility: For 110 years, the Rye Y has been a hub of community life and a catalyst for positive change. Our mission takes us outside the walls of the Y, into schools, senior centers, town halls, local businesses and houses of worship. We offer members of all ages the opportunity to make a difference through community service. We bring hope to cancer survivors and help at-risk adults face chronic disease head-on. We teach children drowning prevention skills through our free Safety Around Water class. We do all this and more while keeping a powerful promise to the communities we serve: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because they can't pay. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CON'T) This spirit of social responsibility infuses every aspect of our work, from the partnerships that foster strong communities to the small group programs that promote health and well-being.
  2. #2 $2.30M
Healthy Living: The Rye Y offers many opportunities for members to pursue their health and wellness goals. Our main facility houses a 3,800-sq.ft fitness center, a 6,800 sq.-ft. gymnasium and two pools. Here members can work with a personal trainer, take aquatics classes, swim laps, play basketball, work out, and more. Many of our programs are also open to non-members. Since 2011, we have run LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a 12-week small group program for adult cancer survivors that is free and open to the community. HEALTHY LIVING (CON'T) The Studios at the Rye YMCA is a vibrant, state-of-the-art facility with studios for yoga, Pilates, indoor cycling, High Intensity Interval Training, and more. By the end of the year, we were running 100 group exercise classes per week at the Y Studios. The Y holds senior health fairs, offers evidence-based community health programs and offers a gathering space for area non-profits in the Studios.

How they approach the work

Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.

  • Community-Integrated Cancer Recovery Model
    methodology: peer_supported_recovery
By combining structured post-rehabilitation fitness with peer and staff support, we help adult cancer survivors regain strength and functional ability and adopt long-term healthy lifestyles, because social connection and individualized physical reconditioning together address the holistic needs of recovery beyond clinical treatment.
  • Evidence-Based Chronic Disease Prevention
    methodology: diabetes_prevention_program
By delivering a CDC-recognized, structured lifestyle intervention curriculum based on the NIH-funded Diabetes Prevention Program, we reduce diabetes risk through modest weight loss, improved nutrition, and increased physical activity, because standardized, evidence-based protocols produce measurable behavior change and clinical outcomes.
  • Holistic Development Through Family-Centered Programming
    methodology: holistic_family_programming
By offering values-based, family-oriented programs that integrate physical, mental, and spiritual development, we promote sustained well-being and community connection, because multi-generational engagement reinforces healthy behaviors and strengthens social support systems.
  • Inclusive Access and Financial Equity Model
    methodology: sliding_scale_access
By guaranteeing program access regardless of ability to pay and integrating specialized services into standard membership, we increase inclusivity and utilization, because removing financial and structural barriers enables broader participation and normalizes equitable access to wellness resources.
