STUDENT ASSOCIATION OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Offers more than 60 academic programs, certifications, and microcredentials, including on-campus, online, evening, and weekend classes, and delivers 3-credit microcredential programs that result in SUNY microcredentials, national certification, and transferable college credit.

Enrolls approximately 2,371 to 2,500 full-time and part-time students from multiple counties, states, and countries, maintaining an average class size of 17, and operates the only college campus within a 50-mile radius of Watertown, NY.

Offers non-credit training and workshops in professional growth, personal enrichment, precertification, and youth development through the Workforce Development and Business Division, including custom programs developed with local employers.

Hosts routine community events such as concerts, guest speakers, performing arts, debates, and student art exhibits on campus, and makes campus facilities available for use by local organizations and businesses.

Conducts community-based research through the Center for Community Studies and hosts an annual speaker series to facilitate discussion on issues of community significance.

Provides access to Handshake for local employers to post job openings and recruit Jefferson students and alumni, supporting workforce development and student employment.

Conducted a year-long strategic planning process to define institutional direction for 2025–2030, and recognizes faculty and staff excellence through awards such as the SUNY Chancellor’s Awards and Distinguished Professorships.

Provides early college credit to high school students, delivers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs on campus through academic partnerships with four-year institutions, and enables cross-registration between partner colleges to support degree completion.

Offers on- and off-campus activities that support student involvement as members or leaders, fostering experiences beyond academics.

Provides community members with access to library resources and a $2 each-way public transit option for affordable access to campus, particularly serving rural residents of Jefferson County.

Produces and unveils an annual journal, the Black River Review, featuring poetry, prose, and fine arts created by students, faculty, staff, and alumni, with Volume XXXVI published in May 2026.

Owns and operates East Hall, a residence hall housing 294 students, and provides access to campus resources such as library, study spaces, and technology for students from partner colleges.

Hosts the NYS Small Business Development Center, which provides business advising, business plan development support, and workshops for entrepreneurs and start-ups.

Provides financial aid to 82% of enrolled students and offers over 270 scholarships, including tuition-free microcredentials for direct support professionals with full cost coverage and a $750 completion incentive per program.

Maintains student organizations and conducts fundraising activities to enhance student quality of life, academic success, and holistic development.

Provides outreach, support, and interventions for students in distress, connecting them with campus, community, and family resources to promote academic and personal success.
