NORTH BOSTON VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY INC

Operates and maintains fire apparatus including Engine 3, Engine 4, and a command vehicle. Retires outdated equipment on a regular basis—recent retirements include Rescue 7-2 (September 2025), Engine 3 and Rescue 7 (2021), and Engine 1—with new Rescue Pumpers acquired in 2021. All apparatus are painted white, continuing a tradition established in 1952.

Responds to over 100 emergencies annually, including structure fires, fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, gas investigations, car accidents, downed trees, water rescues, and EMS assists. The company serves as first or second responder within its district and provides mutual aid to neighboring jurisdictions for fires and auto accidents. Responses are coordinated via 911 dispatch and supported by a command vehicle equipped with mobile radios for incident command and traffic control.

Provides standby emergency response services at major community events such as the Erie County Fair, eclipse viewing events, and tornado incidents in Eden to ensure public safety and rapid emergency intervention when needed.

Offers rental of its fire hall facility to the public for private events, supporting community engagement and generating non-operational revenue.

Operates a primary $50 Grand Raffle fundraiser, selling tickets for $100 each and awarding $152,000 in cash prizes, to supplement town contract funds for operational costs. Volunteers assist with raffle operations, and information is updated annually (including for 2026).

Supports volunteer members through annual physical exams, gym membership benefits, length-of-service awards, and an annual awards banquet. Organizes family outings and provides food and beverages at major incident scenes to sustain morale and well-being.

Conducts monthly general meetings, training drills, and station maintenance work details. Provides free in-house, county, and state-level training to volunteer members to maintain operational readiness and certification standards.

Runs an Explorer Post program to engage young people in fire company operations under supervision, fostering early interest in emergency services careers and community service.

Recruits volunteer firefighters from the Town of Boston and adjacent communities, hosts open house events every Monday night at 7PM for prospective volunteers, and equips approved members with Motorola pagers and IamResponding accounts for emergency alerts. Maintains 34 active members, all trained in basic exterior firefighting, with 18 qualified for interior operations.
