Recreation-Based Community Engagement

Engages members in yachting and other aquatic sports while fostering social connections through club activities.

Operates a year-round clubhouse and deck area for social gatherings, including summer deck parties, winter indoor events, and special parties for visiting tall ships and international yachts, such as during OP-sail celebrations.

Organizes and runs club operations using a committee structure with designated chairs responsible for specific functional areas.

Provides a clubhouse, docks, anchorage, and mooring spaces with tender service for member and visiting yachts at its facility in Great Kills Harbor, including access to club amenities and reciprocal agreements with yacht clubs worldwide.

Conducts sailboat racing using designated fleets including the Richmond County One-Design class and Harpoon class, and promotes active participation in sailing through structured racing programs and community engagement.

Serves lunch from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM and provides bar service during extended hours on Wednesdays through Sundays at the clubhouse.

Offers structured summer sailing programs for children aged 7–18, including Beginner Optimist, Intermediate Optimist, and 420/JY15 classes, with instruction Monday through Thursday from early July to mid-August.

Provides access to the Long Island Sound through a continuously operating clubhouse and launch services on a protected cove in Larchmont's Manor Park since 1888.

Hosts social events and casual racing programs to promote sailing and seamanship among members.

Offers sailing lessons, races, and regattas to promote participation in sailing. These programs are ongoing and form a core part of the organization's operational activities.

Organizes and promotes member sailing activities, including regattas and the Annual Invitational Cruise, which emphasizes family participation and tests sailing skills. The club has a history of competitive success, with members winning championships at regional, national, and world levels, including an Olympic bronze medal in 1996.

Provides lunch and dinner service at two club locations—Scotch Caps Tavern Room and Soundview Dining—open Thursday through Sunday.

Owns and maintains 12 acres of land at Scotch Caps in Rye, NY, used as a shore station. The club maintains a USCG inspection certificate for its launch vessels, which are authorized to carry up to 19 passengers, and provides seasonal launch service for transportation to and from moored vessels, operating through November 2.

Monitors VHF channel 71 to assist visiting yachtsmen and manages mooring reservations in coordination with the Dock/Harbor Master to ensure guaranteed placement.

Maintains online resources with information about sailing programs, regattas, and club news for public access.

Provides facilities and support for yachting and other boating activities, promoting recreation and social engagement among members.

Prepares participants to lead high school and college sailing teams, become U.S. Sailing certified instructors, and compete in regional club racing, contributing to broader sailing community development.

Maintains reciprocal guest privileges with over 65 yacht clubs along the U.S. east coast and hosts visiting yachts from around the world.
