Legacy-Driven Civic Activation

Develops and runs an essay contest for middle and high school students that promotes civic education through the values of athletics in partnership with Ehmke Manufacturing Company, Inc.

Hosts and sponsors an annual Battle of the Books competition for grades 6–8, expanding participation from three to ten schools and engaging over 100 students each year.

Co-organizes an educational travel program to Germany that explores the historical and contemporary significance of the Nuremberg Trials and Holocaust remembrance.

Offers professional development opportunities for educators, including a four-day fully funded retreat for 25 teachers focused on the Nuremberg Trials, and provides CTLE credits for New York and Act 84 credit eligibility for Pennsylvania educators.

Hosts panel discussions and expert-led programming on topics including the Nuremberg Trials, genocide, media and mass atrocity, civil rights, international human rights, and the rule of law, with a focus on Justice Jackson’s role as Chief U.S. Prosecutor.

Provides event space for professional meetings, educational seminars, civic gatherings, and personal celebrations at the Center’s facility.

Provides guided tours Monday through Friday and on Summer Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with additional tours by appointment, including field trips for students featuring exhibits and discussions on justice, civil liberties, and civic responsibility.

Provides K-12 and middle school students with interactive learning experiences through programs such as Living Voices, 1A Day, Constitution Day, and curriculum-aligned educational performances, reaching over 100 students annually.

Operates as the global resource dedicated to preserving and promoting the life, values, and legal legacy of Justice Robert H. Jackson through programs, exhibits, media, and public engagement since 2001.

Makes archival collections, including audio and video recordings of the Nuremberg trial proceedings organized in a chronologically ordered guide, available to researchers by appointment.

Develops and distributes ready-to-use lesson plans, primary sources, and teaching tools for grades 4–12 that connect historical events to contemporary civics, constitutional law, and justice issues, including a lesson based on Justice Jackson’s life and legacy.

Offers a summer internship program that provides students with immersive educational and professional development opportunities focused on Justice Jackson's legacy, American jurisprudence, and civic education.

Advocates for the preservation and public recognition of Abbie Hoffman's collected works, ensuring continued access and educational use.

Engages in advocacy to increase public understanding of social activism and civic engagement, with a focus on the legacy of Abbie Hoffman.

Provides tailored historical education programs for students in grades 4–12 through onsite and in-school experiences using primary sources, artifacts, and immersive activities such as Reader’s Theatre and a 34-foot game board focused on 18th-century Hudson River trade. Programs are available on-site, in schools, and virtually, with subsidized or free options for Albany City School District and other groups.

Provides educational tours, exhibit media, and publications about local life over more than 250 years to scholars, educators, and the general public; served approximately 5,000 people in 2024 through on-site and virtual programs, with comparable numbers in prior years.

Co-develops and presents exhibitions such as "The World of James Knapp" and offers specialty tours including "Fight for Freedom" and "The 1827 Murder at Cherry Hill," which explore Revolutionary-era history, Black life in 19th-century Albany, and social issues such as slavery, class, and gender roles through artifacts, stories, and immersive interpretation.

Hosts the annual Albany History Fair, evening author events, book signings, and garden-based StoryWalks that engage the public with regional history, agriculture, and literature. Events include access to gardens, historic house tours, and themed programming such as the 2026 focus on 18th-century Albany and the Revolutionary War.
