Foundational Literacy as Leverage Point

Presents annual scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 to former Newmeadow student alumni who have been accepted to and are attending a two- or four-year college or university.

Operates an on-site ABA clinic and implements ABA techniques across all classrooms to provide behavioral therapy for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Includes individual and group parent training, toilet training, and behavioral support delivered by licensed Board Certified Behavior Analysts.

Shares updates and information about communicable diseases, including COVID-19, via a dedicated web page and the Brightwheel mass notification system.

Organizes regular community outings and field trips for students throughout the school year to support experiential learning and generalization of skills.

Operates both integrated preschool classrooms, where special education students learn alongside general education peers, and self-contained classrooms for targeted early learning skill development. Both models are supported by dedicated therapy rooms and specialized instructional environments.

Offers individual and group parent training to strengthen home-school collaboration, including support for toilet training and behavior management. Training is delivered by licensed professionals and integrated with therapy and classroom goals.

Provides preschool services for children aged 3 to 5 with autism and other special needs, focusing on kindergarten readiness through individualized and socially integrated learning. Implements a curriculum aligned with New York State Common Core Standards, including Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) and a recognized math curriculum, using domain-based, multi-sensory, and unit/theme-based approaches.

Operates two preschool facilities in Clifton Park and Fort Edward, New York, with dedicated spaces including ABA and therapy centers, classrooms, and outdoor play areas. The Clifton Park facility opened in 2017, and the Fort Edward program relocated to a new building in summer 2024.

Reports suspected or confirmed cases of communicable diseases such as COVID-19, flu, and RSV to the Department of Health and identifies outbreaks defined as two or more cases in a classroom or five or more schoolwide. Maintains student data privacy and contacts local law enforcement for safety concerns.

Provides integrated speech, language, occupational, and physical therapy services to improve fine and gross motor skills, communication, and classroom participation. Services are delivered individually and in groups, aligned with classroom instruction and parent collaboration, and include standardized assessments and intervention plans.

Designs and delivers professional learning programs for educators and community-based organizations, introducing research-based, culturally responsive, play-based literacy strategies grounded in adult learning theory to strengthen family literacy support services.

Provides foundational literacy skills to children by engaging parents and caregivers through workshop series, community events, and home-based literacy practices across all five NYC boroughs. Programs include bilingual (English/Spanish) offerings and are delivered in partnership with schools, libraries, childcare centers, hospitals, and cultural institutions.

Operates 35 Literacy Zones at partner sites to provide free books and reading access in community spaces, and supports participation through a mobile app that enables event registration, geolocated literacy events, reminders, rewards, and age-appropriate programming in English and Spanish.

Organizes annual citywide events such as Reading on the Rails—where families read together on subways and ferries en route to a celebration—and virtual, bilingual Reading Celebrations focused on inclusion themes like autism awareness during National Autism Acceptance Month.

Coordinates large-scale programs such as City's First Readers and NYC Reads Initiative, providing continuous literacy support from birth through fifth grade in targeted neighborhoods like East Harlem, East New York, and South Jamaica. Includes hospital-based outreach starting at Bellevue Hospital and partnerships with entities like the New York Yankees and Deloitte.

Provides virtual workshops, bilingual storytimes, and interactive literacy events via digital platforms, enabling remote access to LINC activities for families unable to attend in person.

Deploys neighborhood managers in specific NYC communities to connect families with local LINC resources and sustain relationships with community leaders and institutions to promote adoption of the Community Literacy Model.

Provides specialized literacy and emotional well-being programming for immigrant families, including “Know Your Rights” kits and culturally responsive resources, using a trauma-informed approach to support early literacy development.
