Community-Adaptive Access

Accepts book donations in good condition and no more than 10 years old, excluding textbooks, medical books, and obsolete media; unsuitable items are redirected to Friends of MPL for fundraising book sales.

Provides discount passes for local attractions including Zoo New York, The Wild Center, Adirondack Experience, and Splash Indoor Waterpark.

Provides library cards to children of any age with parental consent, offers cards to temporary residents with proof of address (initially limited to 3 items), and issues first cards free with a $2.00 fee for replacements.

Offers access to eBooks in EPUB and PDF formats for use on eReaders and computers.

Offers access to musical instruments via a lending program in partnership with Harmonny Performing Arts Community, with delivery to participating North Country libraries.

Provides space and facilities for public displays and exhibits in accordance with established library guidelines.

Plans and executes capital improvements, including modernization of the aging boiler system to enhance building safety, comfort, and reduce maintenance costs, supported by a 2026 fundraising campaign.

Offers Book Club in a Bag kits through the North Country Library System, each containing 12 paperback copies and discussion questions, available for six-week checkouts at any member library.

Offers resources and programs that encourage literacy, supplement formal education, and provide cultural and technological access to support personal, educational, and professional development for residents of all ages.

Extends library access by bringing books to residents at Highland Nursing Home.

Enables cardholders to access the online catalog, log in, reserve materials, and place holds on available items with option to pick up at Massena Public Library.

Provides educational and recreational programs tailored for adult and child patrons, including events and activities designed to promote literacy and community engagement.

Offers free access to computers and the internet for library patrons, supporting digital literacy, online research, job applications, and general information needs.

Hosts community programs designed to foster engagement with literature for children and offers adult-focused programming such as weekly yoga classes on Saturdays (limited to 15 participants) and a monthly knitting program on the first, third, and fifth Thursdays from 7 to 8:30pm, which includes instruction, tea, and conversation for all skill levels.

Provides public library services with in-person access six days per week, including lending of books, DVDs, and other materials, as well as 24-hour exterior book return access. Eliminated late fees for most items as of March 2, 2020.

Offers patrons access to subscription-based online resources through the HOMEACCESS system and Mango Languages, enabling language learning in over 45 foreign languages and 15 ESL courses, all accessible with a library card. Also provides online account access for users to manage their accounts and create personal identification numbers (PINs).
