How they approach the work

Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.

  • Barrier-Free Access to Participation
    methodology: barrier-free_access
By removing prerequisites like prior athletic or swimming experience, ROW NEW YORK increases equitable access and engagement, because lowering entry barriers allows curiosity and effort—not background or ability—to determine participation, fostering inclusion and self-efficacy.
  • Experiential Inclusion Through Integrated Ability Programming
    methodology: integrated_ability_programming
By integrating adaptive and able-bodied rowing programs, ROW NEW YORK promotes experiential inclusion, because shared participation in a demanding team sport creates mutual understanding, breaks down stigma, and builds authentic community across ability lines.
  • Integrated Athletic and Academic Development
    methodology: rowing-plus-academic-support
By combining competitive rowing with academic support, ROW NEW YORK fosters confidence, work ethic, and long-term success in youth, because dual engagement in physical and intellectual disciplines reinforces resilience, discipline, and goal-setting that transfer across life domains.
  • Teamwork and Resilience via Endurance Sport
    methodology: endurance-sports-for-teamwork
By using rowing—an endurance sport requiring synchronization and delayed gratification—ROW NEW YORK teaches collaboration, trust, and resilience, because the physical and temporal demands of the sport create real-time lessons in mutual accountability and sustained effort that generalize to non-sport contexts.
  • Youth-Led Leadership Model
    methodology: youth-led-leadership
By engaging student-athletes as leaders and cultural ambassadors, ROW NEW YORK strengthens program implementation and peer relationships, because youth leadership increases ownership, trust, and relevance of programming among participants.
