THE TASKFORCE WORKED ON EDUCATING BOTH THE PUBLIC AND LEGISLATORS CONCERNING THE SOCIAL COSTS OF UNEMPLOYMENT AND THE FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING A STATE-FUNDED DIRECT JOB CREATION PROGRAM TO PROVIDE DECENT WORK FOR ALL UNEMPLOYED JOBSEEKERS. TWO HIGH-RANKING MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY DRAFTED A BILL TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF FUNDING A PILOT PROJECT TO TEST THE IDEA. A COMMITTEE HEARING WAS HELD ON THE BILL AND IT WAS VOTED OUT OF COMMITTEE, BUT NO FLOOR VOTE WAS SCHEDULED.
