How they approach the work
Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.
- Community-Controlled Affordability Mechanismsmethodology: community_land_trustsBy supporting Community Land Trusts and tenant-to-ownership conversions, the organization ensures long-term affordability and prevents displacement because separating land ownership from homeownership and empowering residents as stewards enables communities to retain control over housing resources across time.
- Housing as Intergenerational Equity Buildermethodology: homeownership-as_equityBy expanding access to permanently affordable homeownership—particularly for working-class, first-time buyers—the organization generates long-term community wealth and improves health, education, and economic outcomes across generations, because stable homeownership is a foundational vehicle for building equity in high-cost urban areas.
- Integrated Service and Advocacy Modelmethodology: integrated_service_and_advocacyBy combining direct housing services (such as homebuilding, preservation, and homeownership financing) with policy advocacy and systemic reform efforts, Habitat for Humanity NYC creates lasting impact because addressing both immediate needs and root structural causes leads to more sustainable and equitable housing outcomes.
- Sustainable Financing for Affordable Housingmethodology: gap_financing_for_affordable_housingBy deploying gap financing and market-based lending models tailored to underserved nonprofit developers and resident-owned buildings, the organization expands affordable housing supply because these financial tools bridge capital shortfalls that traditional markets fail to address, ensuring permanent affordability.
