SEAGLE MUSIC COLONY INC D/B/A SEAGLE FESTIVAL

Trains emerging opera artists who go on to perform at major institutions such as The Metropolitan Opera and Santa Fe Opera, or pursue careers in vocal arts education at the college level. The program emphasizes career planning, audition readiness, and professional networking.

Provides an annual summer residency program for 30–32 emerging opera singers, including private voice lessons, coaching, masterclasses, training in audition techniques and career planning, and instruction in theatrical production elements such as costumes, makeup, and staging. Each participant is assigned at least one featured role in fully staged productions.

Offers a free summer workshop for youth aged 8–18 that includes professional vocal training, costumes, snacks, and performance opportunities. The program is led by the Director of Education and Community Engagement in collaboration with a local school music teacher, and has produced performances such as Carmen.

Deploys four Emerging Artists and a pianist to deliver touring performances of a 35-minute operatic adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood to schools for a flat fee of $500, with payment options through BOCES Arts in Education. Includes a live Q&A session and provides a professionally developed teacher guide to support classroom engagement.

Includes youth chorus members and participants in principal and understudy roles in professional productions such as Dead Man Walking, requiring full preparation of music and staging. Youth performers appear alongside lead artists in fully staged performances.

Manages the Seagle Alumni Association, established in 2016, to engage alumni through events, volunteering, and scholarship fundraising. Organizes annual alumni weekends and reunions and supports the Seagle Alumni Scholarship through donations.

Hosts an annual gala and luncheon to support artist scholarships and program operations. The gala includes dinner, entertainment by Emerging Artists, dancing, and a live auction. The luncheon features a three-course meal, cash bar, performances, and interactive fundraising.

Presents concerts featuring repertoire by composers such as Leonard Bernstein and American songbook standards, including touring performances and limited-seating events. Examples include the 2026 tour of "Life is Happiness Indeed: The Music of Leonard Bernstein" and the "Old Friends & New" concert in 2026.

Supports the creation of new opera through the American Center for New Works Development (ACNWD), launched in 2017. Hosts annual workshops and mainstage productions of new or recently composed works, including world premieres such as Roscoe (2016), Harmony (2021), and At That Hour (2024), and has presented workshops for works like Frau Margot.

Stages multiple fully produced opera and musical theater performances each season at the Oscar Seagle Memorial Theater, Boathouse Theater, and regional venues including Bolton Landing, Chestertown, Glens Falls, Lake Placid, North Creek, and Ticonderoga. Recent productions include Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore, Dead Man Walking, and The Sound of Music.
