Trauma-Informed Rehabilitation

Provides permanent sanctuary and daily care for bears born in captivity or injured in ways that prevent survival in the wild, including bears from failed breeding programs, closed animal parks, and car collisions. Currently cares for at least 11 bears, including eight endangered Syrian brown bears and disabled individuals such as Vinny NuNu and Frankie.

Provides safety, medical care, and nurturing to orphaned and injured wildlife with the primary goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back into the wild. The organization has been licensed for wildlife rehabilitation since 1996 and responds to wildlife rescue inquiries daily.

Provides ongoing continuing education programs for veterinarians in both online webinar and in-person formats, offering 2.0 or more NY State-approved CE credits per session. Topics include small animal medicine, equine genetic testing, feline infectious peritonitis, outpatient sedation, controlled substances management, and wellness in veterinary practice.

Tracks and communicates emerging environmental and public health trends affecting veterinary practice, including expanded tick activity on Long Island due to favorable environmental conditions and earlier seasonal emergence.

Offers evidence-based guidance for pet owners and the public on tick bite prevention, including protective clothing, environmental avoidance, full-body checks, and safe tick removal using tweezers. Also includes instructions for wound cleaning and proper disposal to reduce infection risk.

Offers professional membership to licensed veterinarians in Suffolk and Nassau Counties, NY, who meet ethical and professional standards. Recognizes members who participate in continuing education and career exploration initiatives to support professional growth.

Helps over 200 cats and kittens find permanent adoptive homes annually through a network of rescuers, volunteers, fosters, and adoption centers. Operates a foster program to expand capacity for rescuing and caring for cats in temporary homes.

Provides full veterinary services prior to adoption or during rehabilitation, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, disease testing, and specialized treatments. Conducts diagnostics such as bloodwork and x-rays for animals with complex medical needs, including those diagnosed with depression or chronic illness.

Conducts outreach and education programs in partnership with schools, scout groups, nature centers, and community organizations. Provides training seminars for local first responders on safely approaching and providing basic care to injured or distressed animals.

Rescues, rehabilitates, and releases hundreds of orphaned and injured wild animals annually in Westchester, Rockland, Fairfield, and surrounding areas, with the goal of returning them to the wild when healed and age-appropriate. Responds to over 8,000 calls annually related to wildlife, farm animal, and cat rescue needs.

Provides permanent sanctuary and specialized care for over 250 rescued farm animals, including horses, sheep, goats, pigs, birds, and other species, many of whom suffer from chronic health conditions, abuse, or neglect. Animals are rescued from cruelty cases, abandonment, commercial operations, and institutional closures.

Creates and shares visual records and narratives of rescued animals’ recovery and social integration, highlighting their transformations and emotional bonds formed at the sanctuary.

Offers guided sanctuary tours by appointment on Sundays with a suggested donation, and hosts public events and educational workshops throughout the year, including an annual Earth Day Celebration and sessions on animals, nature, and pet loss grief support.

Offers permanent homes and comprehensive care for rescued cats, dogs, horses, and parrots, particularly those with age, disabilities, medical conditions, or behavioral challenges that make adoption difficult. The sanctuary operates on an 80-acre site in the Hudson Valley region of New York and collaborates with animal rescues and veterinarians to support animals rescued from cruelty and neglect.

Delivers medical treatment, nourishment, and compassionate end-of-life care for senior, disabled, special needs, and terminally ill animals, ensuring quality of life in a sanctuary setting.

Offers scenic venue space for weddings and other organized events featuring three ponds and natural landscapes, with pet-friendly accommodations available.

Conducts advocacy campaigns that have successfully eliminated the routine poisoning of cats by local restaurateurs in targeted areas of Amorgos.

Conducts large-scale animal sterilization initiatives, including spay/neuter services for stray cats on Amorgos through the Aeghiali Project since 2015, and supports broader population management to reduce stray animal numbers and promote environmental sustainability. Provided sterilization for 2,656 animals overall.
