Structured Skill Progression

Facilitates member participation in U.S. Figure Skating-sponsored test sessions and sanctioned events, including qualifying competitions; administers skills and dance tests, processes test credit paperwork within 30 days, and has transitioned from the 6.0 system to the Component Judging System (CJS) effective July 1, 2026, with educational support for skaters and coaches.

Provides freestyle ice time on Saturday afternoons from early October to mid-March (with potential extension) for skaters at USFSA Pre-preliminary level and above, including those in Learn to Skate programs receiving private lessons; sessions support routine practice, skill development, and private coaching, with designated ice areas for specific skills and rules against unauthorized videotaping.

Offers a Learn to Skate program for ages 3-adult, covering US Figure Skating Basic Skills levels 1-6 with structured 30-minute group lessons followed by 30 minutes of practice ice; sessions run on specific dates, such as between October 4 and December 13, 2025, and include smaller class sizes with a maximum of 10 skaters per beginner group.

Hosts the annual Garren competition for winter session skaters, produces the December Holiday Happiness ice show, and organizes skater performances at community events such as the RPI Women’s Hockey Game halftime, Empire Plaza Tree Lighting Ceremony, and other public showcases.

Continues to promote figure skating as a recreational and competitive activity in New York's Capital Region, building on a history that includes founding the club in 1947, achieving probationary and full USFSA membership, establishing a Junior Division, hosting sectional and sub-sectional championships, and maintaining active programming for over 75 years.

Offers members reduced U.S. Figure Skating membership fees (half the rate for unaffiliated individuals), individually numbered membership cards, subscription to SKATING magazine, access to sports accident insurance, and discounts from corporate partners.

Offers private figure skating instruction with experienced coaching professionals for skaters at all levels, from beginner to Senior, to support skill development, testing, and competition preparation.

Coaches and supports skaters in competitive programs, enabling participation in regional, sectional, and national events; recognizes achievement through certificates for test passage or placements, and has coached skaters to gold medals in events such as the Mohawk Valley Classic, HMFSC Garren, and Empire State Winter Games.

Provides regular members-only ice sessions, quarterly test sessions, in-house ice shows, exhibitions, and social events to support skater engagement and development at all levels.

Hosts the Annual Spring Invitational figure skating competition and the Summer Exhibition and Banquet event at RIT, providing performance and competitive opportunities for skaters.

Offers skating instruction to amateur skaters of all levels, supporting skill development and progression in figure skating.

Provides figure skating instruction to participants.

Operates a synchronized skating team focused on competitive performance, sportsmanship, teamwork, and community engagement.

Organizes and hosts test sessions conducted by U.S. Figure Skating officials to evaluate skaters’ abilities, certify achievements, and support advancement through skill levels.

Offers members consistent access to ice time for the development of figure skating skills. This includes structured practice sessions aimed at skill progression.

Provides over 500 hours of ice time annually to members to support instruction, practice, and advancement in figure skating disciplines.

Hosts virtual and in-person U.S. Figure Skating-sanctioned test sessions annually, enabling skaters to advance their skills and achieve discipline-specific milestones, including gold medalist status. Supported at least 18 gold-level achievements between 2016 and 2026 across multiple disciplines.

Enables member skaters to participate in U.S. Figure Skating-sponsored competitions, qualifying events, and regional, sectional, and national events. Organizes an annual club ice show and other events to showcase skater development.
