Professional Development Through Education

Promotes professional development and education for certified public accountants through ongoing programs and initiatives.

Monitors and influences tax-related legislation at federal, state, and local levels, conducts advocacy with the New York State Tax Department, and works to increase the visibility of enrolled agents within government agencies.

Annually awards scholarships of up to $500 for professional education and presents awards at the annual conference to recognize leadership, service, and contributions to the profession and association.

Supports members in building community relationships, engaging with local leaders, and increasing public awareness of enrolled agents through promotional tools and recognition programs.

Maintains and promotes a directory of Enrolled Agents and facilitates access to professionals with expertise in areas such as cryptocurrencies, military and international taxation, cannabis-related businesses, and nonprofit and business tax services.

Runs a formal mentorship program that pairs experienced Enrolled Agents with newer members using an application-based matching process based on background, experience, and professional goals to support integration and professional growth.

Hosts an annual conference and new member mixers that provide professional development, recognition, and networking opportunities for Enrolled Agents in New York.

Offers ongoing educational opportunities including a Distinguished Speaker Webinar Series and specialized webinars on topics such as accounting fundamentals to enhance members' professional knowledge and skills.

Offers access to tax and non-tax resources, job postings, promotional tools, member discounts through partner programs, reduced pricing for events, and maintains regular communication with members through multiple channels.

Identifies and develops new organizational leaders, reviews and updates bylaws and policy manuals, and works to refine organizational structure to ensure long-term sustainability.

Funds and awards the Judge Mordue Scholarship to support law students, such as recipients at Syracuse University School of Law, as part of its commitment to legal education and professional development.

Provides a forum for promoting exchange of ideas between the practicing bar and the federal court, and serves as a liaison between the Federal Bench and Bar in the Northern District of New York to strengthen professional relationships and dialogue.

Operates a members-only job posting system where attorneys can submit, review, and publish legal job openings, with approved postings remaining active for at least thirty days.

Monitors, reviews, and proposes amendments to the Local and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure in the Northern District of New York to improve judicial efficiency and legal practice standards.

Runs a selective Trial Advocacy Training Program that trains early-career federal trial attorneys, with only twelve participants accepted annually, to enhance litigation skills and courtroom effectiveness.

Hosts luncheon series, trial re-enactments, panel discussions, and special programs that connect attorneys with judges and promote dialogue on legal history and constitutional issues.

Develops, hosts, and accredits CLE programs on topics including electronic filing, courtroom technology, sentencing procedures, and §1983 litigation, offering both in-person and online self-study options for attorneys in the Northern District of New York.

Offers annual membership to attorneys for $125 per year (waived for first-year attorneys and recent graduates), granting access to members-only resources, CLE programs, and professional benefits via the NDNY-FCBA website.
