Has contributed over $1.5 million to support clinical research and trials on emerging mental health treatments, including funding an MDMA-assisted therapy trial for veterans with PTSD at Sunstone Therapies in partnership with the State of Maryland.

Provides financial support to organizations that deliver psychedelic-assisted therapy treatments to veterans in crisis.

Funds the Veteran Mental Health Leadership Coalition to educate veterans on psychedelic and emerging therapies, organize community events, and support policy advocacy and consensus development.

Provides educational programming focused on psychedelics, including their historical, cultural, and therapeutic contexts. Serves communities of color through workshops, events, and public discourse.

Produces public commentaries and advocates for progressive drug policy changes, including marijuana legalization, psilocybin decriminalization, and comprehensive responses to the overdose epidemic through expanded treatment access and improved care systems.

Conducts and publishes research on the risks of high-potency marijuana, prescription opioids, and psychedelics; evaluates treatment approaches such as psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression; and analyzes state-level policy developments including marijuana legalization, flavored tobacco bans, and voter trends in drug policy reform.

Partnered with Belden, Inc. in 2018 to create the Pathways to Employment drug treatment program, integrating recovery support with workforce development.

Produces and distributes a regular podcast providing updates and analysis on addiction-related topics for public and professional audiences.

Provides information and educational resources on addiction to individuals, families, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to support treatment and policy decisions.

Engages in advocacy to increase domestic access and reduce costs of psychedelic treatment for veterans, including efforts to decriminalize psychedelic substances. In 2025, engaged policymakers in over 15 states and on Capitol Hill, built bipartisan coalitions, provided testimony, and drafted policy language to support legal reform and clinical access.

Provides six hours of pre-retreat coaching (three private, three group sessions) and six hours of post-retreat integration coaching per participant with a Heroic Hearts Project coach, along with referrals to long-term care practitioners for alumni.

Funds The Elder’s Fund to support indigenous healers in the Peruvian Amazon basin who practice Amazonian plant medicine and shamanism, preserving traditional knowledge and practices.

Provides financial scholarships to veterans and veteran spouses to access psychedelic treatment programs, addressing barriers to participation.

Offers legal psychedelic retreat programs in Oregon, Peru, Mexico, and Jamaica for over 1,500 veterans and veteran spouses to reduce PTSD symptoms and improve quality of life, with planned expansion to Colorado in 2026. Programs include pre- and post-retreat coaching and use the veteran-designed Heroic Hearts Process.

Conducts and contributes to research on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics for veterans, including an observational study of over 400 veterans and collaboration with Onaya Science to study ayahuasca retreats. Preliminary findings indicate over 80% of participants experience meaningful improvement in PTSD symptoms.

Runs the Veteran Advocacy Fellowship to equip veterans with skills to share their healing journeys and represent their communities in public and policy discussions on psychedelic therapy.

Provides educational resources and guidance to clinical research participants on their rights and how to address study-specific concerns, promoting ethical research practices.

Engages in policy advocacy aimed at addressing the mental illness epidemic by promoting evidence-based approaches involving psychedelic medicine.
