GREECE EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Has awarded over $500,000 in grants to schools in the Greece Central School District since 2000 to enhance educational opportunities beyond standard district funding.

Organizes the Annual Eagles for Education Golf Tournament to raise funds for educational initiatives in the Greece Central School District.

Makes contribution forms available at Greece Central School District schools, the District Office, and online, and enables district employees to contribute to the foundation via payroll deduction.

Holds regular board meetings, both virtual and in-person, to oversee foundation operations and decision-making.

Purchases and funds specific classroom tools and materials such as SMARTboards, LCD projectors, personal response devices ("clickers"), document cameras, netbooks, and multimedia resources like the Bill Nye DVD set to support interactive and inclusive learning across subjects including science, ELA, health, and special education.

Establishes mobile classroom libraries with culturally relevant books, implements the phonics-based Megawords Program for struggling readers, funds book sets for extracurricular and parent-student book clubs, and brings visiting authors to high schools for writing workshops and Read Across America Day events.

Helps cover costs for speakers and sign language interpreters at community events serving the Deaf community and supports inclusive programming such as author visits and interactive discussions accessible to diverse audiences.

Supports music and performing arts education by purchasing a drumming package, funding a backdrop for a student-led musical (DreamTeam), providing iPods and microphones for student podcast creation, and covering transportation and accompanist costs for the ARHS Select Women’s Choir to perform at a national convention.

Funds college planning workshops for high school students and parents covering admissions, testing, and career direction, and supports STEM career exploration through partnerships with institutions like RIT.

Funds transportation, lab fees, and presenter costs for student field trips and hands-on learning experiences, including visits to RIT’s Women in Engineering Club, Mendon Ponds Park for Earth Science, the University of Rochester Life Sciences Learning Center for forensic DNA research, and Niagara Falls for ESOL students’ experiential language development.

Provides grant funding to teachers and schools within the Greece Central School District for programs, equipment, and special projects not covered by the district budget, including computer software aligned with state learning standards, books for character education, and summer enrichment programs in social studies and science.

Funds the Trauma, Illness and Grief Tub to support students during community crises, purchases a simulated infant for child development classes on shaken baby syndrome, and expands the Healthy Highways Program into high school culinary arts to teach nutrition and healthy cooking.
