NORTH SUFFOLK GARDEN CLUB

Conducts annual holiday floral arrangement workshops for nursing home residents, creates centerpieces for public galas and silent auctions, decorates private homes for holiday tours, and organizes botanical workshops with hands-on participant activities.

Designs, maintains, and stewards public garden spaces including the Emma Lee Blackford Rockwell Herb Garden at the Long Island Museum for over 20 years as a community contribution.

Provides educational programs on gardening, horticulture, environmental stewardship, indigenous plants, and pollinators through workshops, demonstrations, and community events. Includes instruction in floral design techniques and historical styles such as ikebana and colonial Williamsburg.

Hosts public flower shows featuring classes in floral design, horticulture, photography, and conservation; includes themed events such as "A Winter’s Tale" and participation in local history-centered shows like the June 2015 event.

Runs the Amaryllis Project to foster children's interest in gardening by providing amaryllis bulbs and detailed lesson plans to a neighborhood preschool.

Provides conservation scholarships and supports member professional development, including advancement to GCA Approved Floral Design Judge status.

Funds conservation and horticultural education initiatives including a $5,000 donation to Farmingdale State College for urban horticulture infrastructure and financial support for the GCA Board of Associates Centennial Pollinator Fellowship program.

Organizes guided walking tours of arboretums and historic gardens such as Bayard Cutting Arboretum, including educational components and private luncheons for members and guests.

Participates in mariculture and oyster reseeding efforts in Stony Brook Harbor to improve water quality and marine habitat, including volunteer distribution of shellfish and co-presentation of educational exhibits on oyster restoration.
