THE FIRE BELL CLUB OF NEW YORK INC

Has awarded the Fire Bell Club Medal annually on Medal Day since 1984 to honor members of the firefighting profession.

Honors recipients of the Chief of Department Peter J. Ganci Jr. Medal, the Shelly Rothman Memorial Medal, and the Fire Bell Club Medal at an annual dinner held each June, with scholarship awards also presented at this event.

Dedicates memorial plaques and walls, and hosts memorial events to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty, including those from the September 11th attacks, the Father’s Day Fire, the 23rd Street Fire, the Waldbaums fire, and other notable incidents such as the Telephone Company Fire and 568 West 149th Street fire.

Supports the firefighting profession broadly through recognition, commemoration, education, and community engagement activities, including honoring individuals like Lt. Andrew Fredericks and participating in events such as Francis Brannigan’s funeral service.

Awards a $1,000 scholarship annually to a Firefighter or Fire Officer at the rank of 5th Grade or above and to an active EMS member (EMT, Paramedic, Dispatch Operator, or Officer), both enrolled in or accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning.

Organizes and participates in visits to FDNY shops, maintenance facilities, and Marine 1 fireboat unit, and hosts meetings featuring guest speakers such as Assistant Chief James Hodges to promote engagement and education within the fire service community.

Hosts annual events including a holiday party, summer outing, and ceremonial dinners such as the Annual Dinner and FDNY Medal Day, which have been held consistently in recent years including 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Produces and distributes the monthly publication 'News Notes' to all FDNY companies, EMS stations, department ranking officials, and members with active fdny.nyc.gov email addresses, reaching over 20,000 readers and sent to every firehouse in New York City.

Provides ongoing public relations support to the FDNY and contributes time and effort to the Fire Museum and the FDNY Mand Library.

Documents and/or responds to major fire incidents including 4- and 5-alarm fires at locations in Queens and Manhattan, such as Flo Cafe, Sutphin Boulevard, and 24 Murray Street, as part of its engagement with the FDNY community.
