In 2025, our organization continued to promote diverse voices in American theater by expanding access to the Bard at the Gate archive-filmed productions by writers from historically underrepresented groups. We partnered with high schools, colleges, and universities, to integrate the plays and post-show discussions into curricula. Our ongoing partnership with Broadway on Demand provided nationwide streaming access to works including: "Shapeshifter" by Laura Schellhardt, "Tent Revival" by Majkin Holmquist, "Cut: A Blasphemy" by Nikki Massoud, "Charles Francis Chan Jr.'s Exotic Oriental Murder" by Lloyd Suh, "How to Raise a Freeman" by Zakiyyah Alexander, "Passing" by Dipika Guha, "Sonnets for an Old Century" by José Rivera.

How they approach the work

Named approaches extracted from this org’s sources. Where others share an approach, follow it to see the full set of orgs running it.

  • Amplification of Underrepresented Voices through Curated Programming
    methodology: representation-amplification
By curating and producing plays by BIPOC, women, LGBTQ, disabled, and Indigenous artists—both contemporary and reinterpreted classics—the organization increases representation in American theater and challenges systemic inequities in the canon, because visibility of marginalized narratives fosters cultural change and audience engagement with social justice themes.
  • Educational Integration as a Pathway to Deeper Engagement
    methodology: curriculum-integration
By embedding theatrical works and post-show discussions into academic curricula, the organization deepens public understanding of underrepresented narratives, because structured educational contexts amplify the civic and reflective impact of theater beyond performance alone.
  • Theater as a Confrontational Narrative Tool for Historical and Systemic Critique
    methodology: theater-for-social-reflection
By using contemporary reinterpretations, graphic-novel-style metaphors, and cultural storytelling, the organization frames theater as a means to confront colonial histories, systemic power dynamics, and erasure, because narrative engagement enables audiences to reflect on identity, belonging, and resistance in ways that factual discourse alone cannot.
