Metropolitan Rod and Gun Club Inc

Provides Hunter Safety Courses in rifle, shotgun, and archery in collaboration with the New York State Department of Conservation, certifying thousands of participants. Has graduated approximately 3,650 junior applicants through New York State’s Junior Hunter Training Program since 1950 and previously trained youth in riflery, archery, and fishing through programs with the Boy Scouts and Ten Mile River Camp.

Hosts ongoing NRA-sanctioned classification events in Precision Pistol, International Pistol, and Small-bore Rifle, as well as modified international centerfire matches and CMP Aces program events. These events allow both beginners and experienced shooters to earn NRA classification cards and participate in organized competition.

Operates a 20-yard indoor archery range with 5 shooting lanes, including an accessible lane, and a 6-lane indoor firearms range with 50-foot shooting distance and electric target carriers at its Brooklyn clubhouse. Provides access to these facilities for members and juniors to practice archery and shooting skills.

Participates in weekly shoots with the Greater New York Pistol League on Wednesday evenings during the school year and engages in regular shooting competitions through membership in the league. Member teams compete in sanctioned events, including NRA and CMP Aces programs.

Offers archery instruction and technique guidance to members and juniors through USA Archery-certified level 2 instructors. Uses 3D targets to help participants develop hunting-related archery skills.

Allows prospective members to participate in club activities under supervision during the application period. Conducts member-led safety training programs for firearms and archery to ensure safe handling and responsible use.

Hosts club meetings twice per month on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays for current and prospective members. Organizes annual educational and social events, including workshops and seminars led by members, to promote safety and engagement.

Hosts an annual game dinner featuring harvested game, serving as a social event for members and promoting traditions of ethical hunting and stewardship.

Provides access to 972 acres of private property in Hancock, NY, connected to adjacent state game lands, for member hunting activities. Manages wildlife populations to support consistent harvesting of deer, turkey, bear, and other game species.

Provides volunteer opportunities for members to support club operations and conservation efforts, fostering stewardship and active participation in the organization’s mission.

Qualified over 5,000 members of the Brooklyn division of the City Patrol Corps on its firearms range during World War II at no cost and without incident. Trained over 500 young men in the proper use of firearms under the NRA’s pre-induction training program during the same period.
