THE BASIC MISSION OF THE AMERICAN LEGION, AND POST 1029, IS THE ON-GOING FIGHT FOR VETERANS' RIGHTS - PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. TO THIS END, THIS POST DOES ITS BEST TO KEEP THE COMMUNITY OF ISLAND PARK INFORMED ABOUT VETERAN'S ISSUES AND THE CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY VETERANS TO KEEP AMERICA FREE. THE THREE LARGEST PROGRAMS THAT THIS POST CONDUCTS ANNUALLY ARE THE MEMORIAL DAY PARADE, THE VETERANS DAY CEREMONY, AND THE VISIT TO THE POST OF THE DISABLED VETERANS FROM ST. ALBANS AND NORTHPORT VA HOSPITALS. NEW FOR 2023 IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE VILLAGE OF ISLAND PARK IS THE ADOPTION AN "HONOR OUR VETERANS BANNER PROGRAM" THE OBJECTIVE IS TO MOUNT BANNERS CONTAINING PICTURES OF LOCAL VETERANS ALONG THE MAIN THOROUGHFARE IN ISLAND PARK. THE POST ORGANIZES AND CONDUCTS THE ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PARADE FOR THE VILLAGE OF ISLAND PARK. THE PARADE SERVES AS POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT TO THE COMMUNITY OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ALL VETERANS, LIVING AND DECEASED, IN ALL THE WARS OVER THE LONG AND STORIED HISTO
