What they reported doing

  1. #1 primary $2K
New play development is something we work on all year round-this year included readings by Liba Vaynberg (playwright of Matriarchs) as well as the toddler play by Helen Cespedes, Fort Knox, Florida by Leigh Flayton, Alice in Bed (with a new foreword) by Susan Sontag under Inés Braun's direction and other readings. We partnered with the American Playwriting Foundation for some of our readings that were more public-facing, allowing artists to directly engage with their audience around relevant themes. We also hosted readings internally and fostered dramaturgical conversations (after readings, led by the artists) to better understand the stage of the play and how it can progress further. We also co-produced a developmental workshop the Hearth (another organization whose mission aligns with ours).
  2. #2 $15K
As part of our mission to foster leadership through women's arts and culture, we worked on the short art film SUITE BERGAMASQUE (starring Sharina Martin, Craig Divino, Ali Stoner, and Elia Monte-Brown) directed by Raj Trivedi by helping develop and produce the film along the lines of our organization's mission. This film focuses on a woman who is a pianist, wrestling with her demons around performance and criticism upon completion of a concert in which she played Suite Bergamasque by Claude Debussy. Our set employed a majority of women and furthered women's narratives through sensitive eand three-dimensional portrayals of the questions that haunt artists and audience members alike: did I do the thing well? Is everyone around me lying to me? When do I want to be praised and when do I want to be criticized? And why? The film is complete along with talkbacks and educational components that allow artists and audience to self-reflect.

  • Artist-Centered Funding Model
    methodology: artist-centered funding
By channeling donations directly to artists, we ensure financial resources empower creative individuals, because direct funding strengthens artistic ownership, sustainability, and equity in production.
  • Collaborative Play Development with Marginalized Voices
    methodology: recentering_marginalized_narratives
By integrating artist-in-residence programs and thematic workshops, we develop new plays that center Jewish, women's, and immigrant narratives, because sustained collaboration and cultural interrogation foster authentic, introspective storytelling and elevate underrepresented voices.
  • Writing and Narrative as Empowerment
    methodology: writing-as-empowerment
By using writing and self-expression as core artistic tools, we re-center women's voices and promote introspection, because personal narrative fosters empowerment, emotional processing, and collective dialogue among women artists.
